Topic: Fungal taxa missing?

Chris,

I'm working through a checklist of fungi and I'm finding in Recorder on the Preferred Fungus list) there are many examples where sub-species and varieties exist, but there is no parent species, I'm guessing some are due to taxonomic changes, but some could be missing taxa e.g.:

Collema crispum - this is given as a synonym of Collema bachmanianum or C.crispum var.crispum (!)

there are, however, three varieties which are given preferred status!

There are a number of similar occurrences, I could produce a list if needed (will take a little time!)

Re: Fungal taxa missing?

Hi Craig

I'm afraid that the fungus checklist is a bit messy and it does need a good tidy-up when we get time to liaise with Paul Kirk. No particular reasons for the discrepancies that you mention - that's just what we have at the moment and we are very keen to improve it, so it will be looked at.

In the meantime we will be importing a new BLS Lichen checklist in the near future, so that would fix the issue you had with Collema in particular.

Sorry that I can't offer an immediate fix but rest assured that it is something we're not happy with and we will get it sorted out when we can sit down with the experts and revise it.
