Topic: Brachmia gerronella (micro-moth)

I've found a problem with Brachmia gerronella Zell.

Recorder 6, NHM Species Dict. and MapMate give this as a synonym of Caryocolum blandella Doug.
LepIndex gives it as a valid species but B.blandella does not exist in their listing
Two other web-sites (which have previously proved reliable) consider it a synonym of B.blandella F.

I think Meyrick's B.gerronella is in fact B.blandella because Meyrick associates it with gorse and its English name in Recorder is 'Gorse Crest'

Unfortunately both B.blandella (866) and C.blandella (832) are valid species on Bradley & Fletcher

Re: Brachmia gerronella (micro-moth)

Hi Craig

A bit confusing so, just to get this straight in my head, are you saying that the synonym "Brachmia gerronella (Zeller, 1850)" [NHMSYS0000501523] has been misapplied to "Caryocolum blandella (Douglas, 1852)" [NHMSYS0000501647] and should be moved to "Brachmia blandella (Fabricius, 1798)" [NHMSYS0000501522]?

Going by PESI that would seem to be the correct state of affairs.

Best wishes,
Chris R.
