Topic: Sphagnum Bug

Hebrus ruficeps (Recorder 3 dictionary)

When extracting records for data entered against this species there is no Recommended Taxon Name, Recommended Common Name or Recommended Sort Order for this species.  I think preferred info should come from

Hebrus (Hebrusella) ruficeps (Thomson, 1871)
TaxonVersionKey: NHMSYS0020309294

Ah, just found that records for Hebrus (Hebrusella) ruficeps (Thomson, 1871) also have no recommended names either...!!

Re: Sphagnum Bug

Hi Mark

I have the following:

Hebrus (Hebrusella) ruficeps Thomson, 1871    (current recommended, well-formed name)
=Hebrus ruficeps Thomson, 1871                   (well-formed but not recommended)
   =Hebrus ruficeps (Thomson)                          (ill-formed name)
   =Sphagnum Bug                                             (vernacular)

That's how the Species Inventory database stands at the moment but I'm not sure how Recorder handles its recommendations.

Hope that helps

Re: Sphagnum Bug

It looks like this problem of missing Recommended names has not been corrected yet.
Reporting on:
Hebrus (Hebrusella) ruficeps
Micronecta (Micronecta) minutissima
Microvelia (Microvelia) pygmaea
Gerris (Gerris) gibbifer
is not working presumably because they are missing from Nameserver?
There may be others I have not searched the complete Het list

Re: Sphagnum Bug

In Dictionary at 0000002M this looks OK. It is possible that your dictionary may have got out of step in the past.  The Taxon Version key is NHMSYS0020309294, does this not appear in NameServer on your system

The Original problem reported by Mark did turn out in fact to be that his Dictionary had got out of step.

Re: Sphagnum Bug

Thanks Mike
I think you're right that the issue is with our Dictionary. I have run upgrades to 02M but when I run a report on Hebrus (Hebrusella) ruficeps it doesn't find anything even though filtering on Taxon in the Observations window shows there are 9 records on our system.
How can I check that our Dictionary is correct and more importantly how do I get sorted if it isn't?

Re: Sphagnum Bug

The way we are dealing with this is for me to provide you with a special dictionary upgrade which brings you into line with the latest version. However, to do this I need a copy of your database. A backup will be fine. You get back a normal dictionary upgrade, so you  don't have to stop using Recorder. You can upload your backup  via dropbox or provide it on a memory stick of DVD.

Re: Sphagnum Bug

Thanks Mike
NBNData.bak is about 4 Gb so I'll have to send it to you on a memory stick
I'll sort something out after Christmas
