Re: R2K2 Dictionary 'Common Common' Names

Hello alli,
I am looking to report on the 'common common' name of the species dictionary.  By this I mean a query to produce an NBN Gateway style summary of each taxon - e.g. Diptera records with a ‘Insect – True Fly’ type description,  Orthoptera with ‘Invertebrate – Cricket & Grasshoppers’ type description.

I've had some data through from John Tweddle at NHM and from Dave at SEWBReC (thanks to both of them) but I wondered if anyone else has either produced or is looking to produce this type of reporting ?

I'm working in R2K2.

Thanks,

I know that this is available in R6 (I use it all the time; very useful it is), but I don't recall if it was in R2K2. To check to see if it's available, have a look in the report wizard for an attribute called "taxon group".

Re: R2K2 Dictionary 'Common Common' Names

Thanks Charles.  I took a look at the Report Wizard but 'taxon group' it isn't there.  I did take a look at USEABLE_FIELD table but couldn't see it there either.

I would look to report both with the Report Wizard but directly in Access in order to provide summary data of the species records.  I have queries to count records by species,  family or order but want to link these counts to 'common common names' data already in Recorder,  or to that available elsewhere.

Any further advice or thoughts out there please (not ready for R6 yet in Herefordshire !)

Other than upgrading to R6, there's not a lot you can do I'm afraid to say.

Re: R2K2 Dictionary 'Common Common' Names

If you can do your reporting in Access I could produce an extract from the Recorder 6 dictionary that would enable you to include taxon groups like ‘insect - true fly (Diptera)’. I did this for a Recorder 2002 customer last year but it was done using Recorder 6 v6.6.8 so it would be best to redo it using the latest version, i.e. v6.9.3, in case you have used the Environment Agency Check List.

When Recorder 6 first came out it contained 181 lists, one less than Recorder 2002. That version (V6.6.8.59) didn't contain the Environment Agency Check List. The upgrade to version 6.7.2.77 adds 18 lists, including the Environment Agency Check List, and the upgrade to the latest version (v6.9.3.102) adds another 9 lists – see the release notes for details.

I would be happy to do this under my usual terms for support.
