Re: Auchenorrhyncha Name Changes

Charles,

The latest Update Newsletter for MapMate lists a number of changes to the names of some Auchenorrhynca (plant hoppers) - an extract from the Newsletter is shown below:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
New Patches

The following new patches are now available for MapMate.  For details of how to obtain patches see bottom of this box.

    * 417 - Miscellaneous Changes

      Marine molluscs. Adds Ruditapes philippinarum.

      Lepidoptera: Corrects B&F Numbers for 41b and 41x (need leading zeros to sort properly).

      Bats: Adds the new species Myotis alcathoe Alcathoe's Bat.  Adds Harp Trap as a new standard method.  Corrects Record Status of "hibenaculum" to hibernaculum.  Note, we have not added a new general aggregate for the "Whiskered Group" and await general consensus on this.

      Essex:  Corrects Vice-county polygons so these includes Southend-on-Sea area (part of VC18).  Note that this doesn't correct similar fault with the More Map Features - this will be corrected with a subsequent update of the full map library.

    * 418 - Lepidoptera

      Full Refresh of the Checklist.  Including ALL patches to date (417 inclusive).  We will be issuing full refreshes of many group in the near future so you can ensure you have the latest checklist by running this patch.  Note that a full refresh also includes all specific Record Status and Taxon Stage terms and all associated Filters.  Note this is a fairly big file (5MB) and may take a little while to download.

    * 419 - Heteroptera: Auchenorrhyncha

      A full revision of the Checklist.

      Including new taxa definitions for: Idiocerus ribauti, Batracomorphus allionii, Macropsis megerlei, Dryodurgades antoniae, Psammotettix helvolus, Synophropsis lauri, Alebra viridis, Liguropia juniperi, Eupteryx decemnotata, Zyginella pulchra, Kelisia occirrega, Prokelisia marginata and Delphax crassicornis.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Only the last 2 names in this Auchenorrhynca list are currently contained within the NBN Dictionary.  I suspect the others are name changes rather than new species but obviously, as LRCs receive data from MapMate users we need to be able to match these names within our own Recorder-6 based systems and also in on-line systems using the NBN webservices dictionary.

Could you please check them and add/amend as and where necessary.

Many thanks

Steve
