Re: Alpine Newt Entry Required in Dictionary

Could you please add an entry for the Alpine Newt (Lissotriton alpestris (Laurenti, 1768). They have been breeding in a Macclesfield pond for over 6 years and have also been caught at another pond in the Manchester Airport area.

Many thanks.

Re: Alpine Newt Entry Required in Dictionary

Dear Steve,

Alpine Newt is already in the Species Dictionary, with the scientific name of Mesotriton alpestris (Laurenti, 1768). I have, however, added the current nmae for this species, which is: Ichthyosaura alpestris (Laurenti, 1768) Taxon Version Key: NHMSYS0020740241

Best wishes,

Re: Alpine Newt Entry Required in Dictionary

Hi Charles,

Thanks but it still leaves me with a problem.

Typing in 'Lissotriton alpestris' into the Webservices Taxon Search at:  http://data.nbn.org.uk/nbnexamples/ws-t … Search.jsp produces an error page which normally indicates that the species name entered is NOT on the Dictionary.

However, typing in 'Alpine Newt' gives the following information in return:

Mesotriton alpestris, (Laurenti, 1768) - NHMSYS0020194857 - amphibian
Synonyms

    * Alpine Newt,   - NBNSYS0000164751
    * Triturus alpestris,   - NBNSYS0000041451
    * Triturus alpestris, (Laurenti, 1768) - NHMSYS0000080154

As you can see from the above the name 'Lissotriton alpestris' does not appear in the synonymy list.  Can I ask you to add an entry for "Lissotriton alpestris (Laurenti, 1768)" to the synonymy list for this species please ?

Many thanks.
