Hi Charles,

Certainly - though most of them match English Names I have known and used all my life.  Still, the list was created from:

Collins Pocket Guide "Sea Shore of Britain & Europe" by Peter Hayward, Tony Nelson-Smith and Chris Shields - published by Harper Collins Publishers - 1996.   ISBN 0 00 219955 6

English/Common Names in/from these 'popular' identification books are often used by amateur naturalists and provide a starting reference which the Latin Names may never do.  Personally I don't understand it as I much prefer using Latin Names (came from early involvement with micro-moths) but many recorders do use English Names, especially those expanding out from being 'birders', and as such I strongly feel it is important that we allow the usage of such though obviously matched with the correct Latin Names.
