Re: WCA Schedule 9

I have just been made aware of a big change to Schedule 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act, adding a large number of species - will there be a release of a new species dictionary quickly to address these changes? For Recorder to remain useable in LRCs, changes like this must be implemented ASAP!

Hi Craig,

Have you got a reference to this big change anywhere?

Re: WCA Schedule 9

The new list of Schedule 9 species can be found here: http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-pets/w … le9%20.pdf.

I posted a message relating to this on the R6 'feature requests' forum a few days ago. It would be nice to have the new Schedule 9 list as a designation that we could report against in the report wizard.

Re: WCA Schedule 9

Thanks Rich.

As Craig said, changes such as these need to be incorporated into Recorder ASAP. I would go further and say these sorts of changes are so essential that they really need to be issued as an update to Recorder within days of going live.

To those in the know, how feasible is it to incorporate small changes such as this and get them rolled out quickly?

Re: WCA Schedule 9

I would have to add my support for these changes and similar future changes to be provided as Dictionary Updates.  At the very latest within 1 week of their going live and if possible on the same day of their implementation.  Surely, pre-warning can be given to NBN/NHM by DEFRA so that they can be 'ready to go' as soon as implementation takes place ?

Re: WCA Schedule 9

The amended Schedule 9 is due to come into force on 6th April 2010. We ought to be able to get an update released by then (but I am just the Dictionary Manager )

Re: WCA Schedule 9

Did the new schedule ACTUALLY come into force in April?

I can't find any of the new species being coded up after updating to Dictionary P, e.g. Crassula helmsii

Re: WCA Schedule 9

Dear all,

The incorporation of recent amendments to the Wildlife and Countryside Act Schedule 9 into the NBN species dictionary has unfortunately not been delivered by JNCC.  This is partly because JNCC are currently reviewing its role in the provision of species advice and how we can deliver this more effectively. Without wishing to pre-judge the outcome of this review, we will endeavour to incorporate these changes in the next Recorder Dictionary upgrade, to be released as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience that this will undoubtedly cause.

Kind regards,
Mary Campling

Re: WCA Schedule 9

As far as I can tell (based on the evidence of this - http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2010/609/pdfs/uksi_20100609_en.pdf), the WCA schedule 9 ammendment did come into force in April 2010.

This isn't reflected in the latest JNCC designation spreadsheet (Taxon_designations_20100727.xls from http://www.jncc.gov.uk/page-3408). It doesn't suprise me that the ammendments aren't there given what Mary has said above, but the old schedule 9 is not represented there either.

Does anyone know why schedule 9 isn't represented in the spreadsheet? It would be good for it to be in there and come through to the R6 species dictionary for reporting purposes. In the meantime, I guess I will make a rucksack and build a custom designation to report on.

Re: WCA Schedule 9

Hi Rich,
The Schedule 9 list isn't in the designations spreadsheet because it is not considered by JNCC to be a 'conservation designation'. In terms of the species dictionary, we would need to find out who owns the WACA 9 list as it appears in the dictionary, as they would need to submit the 2010 updates.

Re: WCA Schedule 9

Hello
Up until now we've always used a custom list of invasives so it had escaped my notice completely that the taxon designation list did not include Sch 9. I've now been asked specifically for the full list for a data supply. Having read this and the other post referring to the subject I'm surprised this omission still  hasn't been rectified and updated in R6 - unless I'm missing something somewhere?

What are others doing to get round this. Are you using your own rucksacks and if so what list did you generate them from please?

Thanks

Re: WCA Schedule 9

We rarely get asked for just Schedule 9 species - it tends to be wider invasive species - so we use a custom non-native/invasive list compiled from various sources (e.g. EN non-native species audit, EA non-native species lists) and use it as a custom designation in Recorder for reporting purposes.

Thanks Charlie. Its Wessex Water who are asking...they seem quite keen on it but I think they accept they may need to customise it a little!

Re: WCA Schedule 9

Does anyone know if this ever got resolved?

The copy of R6 that I have (with all the latest dictionary updates) still only has 11 species designated as sch 9 part 2.  I'm going to have to add the missing species as local designations - has anyone already done this and are able to send me an extract from their TAXON_DESIGNATION table?

Thanks
Andy
