Re: Harmonia axyridis

We've had our first records of harlequin ladybirds in Leics and Rutland this year and have had a lot of public interest in recording them.  However I can't add them to Recorder 2002 as the species isn't in the species dictionary.  I've checked with Darwyn and it's not in the Recorder 6 dictionary either.  I'd like to exchange records with the national Harlequin Ladybird Survey.  Are there any plans to add it? :)

Re: Harmonia axyridis

Fiona - what we've done is create our own custom Harlequin entry. Then, when an official listing becomes available, we're going to merge our custom dictionary entry with the official one using Recorder's merge tool, then we will delete our custom one to tidy things up.

That doesn't quite answer your question, but I did note in John's other post that the fully up-to-date Coleoptera list is finally ready ((at last - hurrah!), so it might be in there. You'll have to check with John on that one, though.

Re: Harmonia axyridis

Fiona,

The Harlequin Ladybird isn't yet in Recorder, but will hopefully be included before much longer - I'm still awaiting permission to add the coccinelid part of the new beetle list (which despite my requests doesn't yet contain the above in any case!).

In the short-term then I'll add the species to the old R3.3 list, which will mean that it will become available in Recorder (and the nameserver for reporting in R6). This will allow you to easily exchange records.

I'll let the Recorder team know and they'll include the name in a forthcoming update.

Hope that this helps,
John
