Re: Getting Invalid Class String when installing Recorder 6.13a Network

Hi ,
I am getting the error message of "Invalid Class String" when installing Recorder 6.13a Network.
It comes at the point where I have :-

Choosen Option 1. “Install Recorder 6 on your network. >>” from the CD autoplay, and
Choosen Option 3.  “Recorder 6 Server Installation” form the next screen.

I then choose the destination folder which is a mapped shared folder from a server that is a separate server to the SQL 2005 Server.

I then select our SQL server from the next screen which is the "Database Server Selection" screen.

It is after clicking next here that I receive the "Invalid Class String" error message.

The  next screen informs me that It is going to uninstall Recorder 6.  It them finally finishes with the message of "Uninstall of Recorder 6 Server complete."

I have MS Windows Server 2003 Standard, MS SQL Server 2005, and MS Windows Vista Business SP1 as the client PC that I am installing this from.

Can anyone help to let me know where I am going wrong on the installation please?

Thanks,

Re: Getting Invalid Class String when installing Recorder 6.13a Network

Hi Eirion,

Can you post the whole of the error message please - the details can hold clues to the source of the problem. I have seen this error on start up but not so far on installation - on start up it related to an addin that caused the error. As you are using Vista it is possible that this relates to a permission issue on the server. In version 6.14 work has been implemented to ensure greater compatibility with Vista it might be a quicker resolution of the issue to install from a 6.14 DVD rather than a 6.13 (which you can now get from the approved experts or wherever you received your 6.13 install CD).

Best Wishes,
Lynn

Re: Getting Invalid Class String when installing Recorder 6.13a Network

Thanks Lynn,

Its a square message box with the text "Invalid class string" inside it.  Underneath this message and still inside the square box is a smaller rectangular box with OK in inside it.

There is no other message unfortunately.

Re: Getting Invalid Class String when installing Recorder 6.13a Network

Hi Eirion
I'd definitely recommend using the 6.14 CD to install onto Vista as 6.13 was not compatible. It can be installed, but not without some persuasion!

Re: Getting Invalid Class String when installing Recorder 6.13a Network

Recorder will not install on SQL Server 2008 without getting the backward compatibility components from Microsoft. The version of SQL Server 2005 on the CD will not install on the latest versions of the Windows operating system ( XP, Vista and windows 7), so the best bet is to get  a new version of Sql server 2005 express from Microsoft Web site, install this, then install Recorder against this instance. If you want to run under SQl Server 2008 then you can transfer the R6 database to this and as far as I know there are no problems.

On a more positive note work is currently underway to  modify the installetion programs so that Recorder will install on SQL Server 2008.
