Re: Installing Help

Hi

We have a networked version of Recorder 6 on VMWare. We have tried to install the Help funtion without success, even though we followed instructions in Sally Rankins email of 6/5/11. I understand that Sally has discovered a different problem. Do you have any further advice please.

Re: Installing Help

Can you open the Help file outside Recorder 6 and see the introductory information followed by links to Upgrading Recorder, Dictionary Upgrades and the different versions on the right? It is a file called Rec20Hlp.chm which can be found in C:\Program Files\Recorder 6\Help in a standard standalone installation. In a network installation it will be in the Help folder in the Recorder 6 folder on the server. If it doesn't open on your system, try right clicking on it and selecting Properties. If Windows is blocking it, you should see an option to unblock it. On a standalone system I worked on recently, the Help in Recorder 6 worked after unblocking Rec20Hlp.chm.

If it is on a network and you can’t open Rec20Hlp.chm on the server, can you copy it to a local machine and see if you can open it there. Can you confirm whether anyone tried the solution on the Recorder 6 web-site – see  http://jncc.defra.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=4981. As this involves changes to the registry you would probably need to get IT support staff to do the changes. Can you please tell us whether any of these actions get the help working in your system. If not, what happens?

Opening  and using Rec20Hlp.chm outside Recorder 6 is an option but you don’t have the context sensitive help, i.e. the option to click F1 to bring up the help for the active window.
