Well I've come to conclusion Rob it might be quicker to use paper or at least enter every record by hand. I can't even get people names to import as the help describes. Lets face it if it can't cope with a text file what chance do we have with an Excel file.

I just watched an import of a single record from an excel sheet which failed at the very end of the process, this produced the same message as above, however, when we pressed the Continue application button it caused a second error, see below

I don't think Notepad holds any locks on files it opens, unlike Excel & Word, so should not cause any problems. The problem you have above sounds abit like a permissions problem: Unable to create directory. If you can find your Windows temporary directory (mine is C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\Temp, but I am on Windows 7 - yours will be c:\Documents and Settings\... if I remember rightly), then after trying an import, is there a folder called NBN Import in it, and does it contain a file?

Back up to the top of the list again. I never got a sayisfactory reponse to the problem at the top of the thread. However I think the problem just went away again by itself.

Which would be all very well if it hadn't just recurred. A different user is now unable to import from excel spreadsheets (where she could before and recently so no upgrading issues) and the error generated looks just the same as the one above EDBMerger error. She tried the same import on my workstation and succeded.

Any suggestions as to why we have been getting this error? We do have ongoing network latency issues, so if we could identify what precisely is failing, we might be able to track down which bit of kit we need to look at for that as well.

We are also seeing this error elsewhere. It doesn't seem to be a data problem, as I have succesfully imported the files into another system.  One idea is that this is problem with space and this is being investigated.

Back to the top of the forum again with this one.

I have just watched this error occur repeatedly on importing from an Excel sheet. Interestingly now it doesn't generate an unhandled error message and no error text file is saved. Instead we just get a simple windows information dialog with the message "Error occurred transferring records for SQLSERVER_TAXON_OCCURRENCE into the main database" It still generates empty survey events and samples. It looks like the exception is now trapped successfully by the code, but still not really handled properly.

Several other similar imports had succeeded, but one particular one failed again and again. Restarting Recorder on the workstation fixed the problem and allowed the import to go ahead.
