Re: Import Wizard - Location & Location Name

Hope I manage to describe this in an understandable fashion....

I'm importing a record with the location as "River Welland". In Recorder, I have the location "Welland", type River. I match the recorders "River Welland" to my "Welland".

When looking back at the records, I see that Recorder has done as I asked, but has put "River Welland" in the location name.

Is this by design to keep the original recorded location? I've never noticed this before...

What happens if I have specified a location name in the Import Wizard?

Re: Import Wizard - Location & Location Name

This is the expected behaviour. As the Help says (Import Wizard - data format) “When a location is matched to a location in your location hierarchy, its name from the location hierarchy will be stored in (Survey) Event Location and Sample Location and the imported data will be stored in Event Location Name and Sample Location Name, if there is no Location Name for the observation in the import file. If Location and Location Name are present for an observation and Location remains unmatched the two will be concatenated and stored in Event Location Name and Sample Location Name. If Location is present and Location Name is not present, and Location remains unmatched the Location will be stored in Event Location Name and Sample Location Name.”

Note that if the two are concatenated and they exceed the Location Name field size (100 characters) the result will be truncated.

Re: Import Wizard - Location & Location Name

Thanks Sally - needless to say the help was my first port of call, but the Windows Help system isn't the easiest of beasts to navigate. I was looking at "Import Wizard - matching data"
