I have created an XML Report to output a selection of records with the date downgraded to just year

The field syntax is "Year(SAMPLE.VAGUE_DATE_END) AS RecYear"

This works fine where the sample date is a day, but if the sample date is already a year then this creates a RecYear value which is 1 too many, e.g.
                 26/6/2011 - generated 2011
                 2011 - generated 2012

Any ideas where I'm going wrong?
