Re: Dictionary Upgrades Incorrectly Installed?

Hello,

we get the unhandled error message below when trying to open the Names database after incorrectly installing dictionary upgrades (K-Q).

I interepreted the instruction to 'download each file...' literally and unzipped each one to the Scripts folder expecting to have the option to run in batches once I ran DictionaryUpgrade.exe. That option did not appear and it completed 'successfully'. Is it possible the error below is because we did not run them separately as outlined in 'Dictionary Downloads' - especially N?

Do I need to restore the database and run the upgrades again (in sequence)?

Re: Dictionary Upgrades Incorrectly Installed?

Hi,
Actually this problem relates to something that should have been upgraded in your database when you upgraded to version 6.15, which is a separate process to the dictionary upgrade. Please could you try re-running the upgrade kit to upgrade the application to 6.15 again? If that does not work, can you try running the following query and posting back the results (I am assuming you have the tools to do this, if not just let me know).

select * from setting where name='db seq'

Re: Dictionary Upgrades Incorrectly Installed?

Thanks for the repy John.

Can I retry the upgrade with everything in place or do I need to do a restore to 6.14 and go through the upgrade again?

Michael

Re: Dictionary Upgrades Incorrectly Installed?

You could try both - it won't take long to run the upgrade and check if that approach works, then only if not you can try the restore and upgrade approach.

Re: Dictionary Upgrades Incorrectly Installed?

I've restored 6.14 and run the upgrade to 6.15 as well as running the dictionary upgrades.

We are still getting the unhandled exception message when trying to access the Names database.

The select query gives Name: DB Seq, Data:0000007l.

Re: Dictionary Upgrades Incorrectly Installed?

If DB Sep is 0000007I your database is still a v6.14.4.212 database. If the upgrade to v6.15.4.238 had worked DB Sep would be 0000007X. Did you ran RecorderUpgrade.exe in Rec6_Upgrade from v6.14.4 to 6.15.4.zip?

Re: Dictionary Upgrades Incorrectly Installed?

Hi,

yes, we ran RecorderUpgrade.exe and it looked like it went through the upgrade process. I'm a bit stuck now though as I don't have 6.14 to retry. Running the upgrade again gives 'Recorder upgrade complete. No database updates were required'.

When running the upgrade I used the windows account rather than the SQL account (the windows account is db_owner) - is this likely to have caused any issues?

Re: Dictionary Upgrades Incorrectly Installed?

Just to make sure, can you please check the contents of the scripts folder beneath the RecorderUpgrade.exe you ran from Rec6_Upgrade from v6.14.4 to 6.15.4.zip, Does it contain at least the files 0000007I through to 0000007X? If not then the upgrade has either not downloaded or not unzipped properly. If it does, then the upgrade kit should not have reported that it completed if the query still returns a value of 0000007I.

Re: Dictionary Upgrades Incorrectly Installed?

The upgrade had not unzipped properly as there was no Scripts folder. We now get 0000007X when running the 'db seq' query and I hope all is well but need our main user to test.

Many thanks for pointing us in the right direction.
