Re: Standalone or network or ....

I could run R6 on my laptop or I could put a network version onto the main desktop and use the laptop as a client.

or can I install standalone R6 on the desktop but share the programme/drives with the laptop?

The reason is:- I don't want to loose the data if I'm out and about with the laptop but with GCSE and A levels going on I can't always get to the main desktop - and I don't need multiple users.

or is the easiest thing just to install the network version?

cheers

Re: Standalone or network or ....

I would say the easiest thing would be a standalone on the laptop and back-up to the desktop (or to another location, external hard drives are cheap these days)  as often as you need to. The backup process is fast and easy and depending how you're set up, you ought to be able to copy the backup file across to the desktop even when coursework is in progress.

I've a 60gb network drive - so just as easy to back the laptop to that.  Probably easier to be simple rather than try something too clever.

Given the trouble the rest of us have keeping our networked installations working properly, I would have to agree.
