Re: Recorder 6 under Windows 7

Hi,

I know Mike Weideli produced loading instructions for Recorder under Vista, but does anyone know if the are notes on loading Recorder 6.14.4.xxx on a Laptop running Windows 7 Professional and then upgrading to 6.15.

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Recorder 6 under Windows 7

There are no official instructions for installing and using Recorder 6 with Windows 7 yet, but it has been tested – see http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?pid=6926#p6926 . The important thing with Vista and Windows 7 is to use Run as administrator’ when doing any installation type tasks, e.g. for upgrades, right click RecorderUpgrade.exe and select ‘Run as administrator’.

I believe the v6.14 and v6.15 installation disks check whether Vista is present and, if it is, do the installation somewhat differently to an XP installation. We need versions that check whether Vista or Windows 7 is present and install accordingly. Until then, it is probably best to use Mike’s instructions for installing with Vista for Windows 7 installations http://www.lfield.co.uk/page7a.html . For standard standalone Windows XP installations all the application files go into C:\Program Files. If this happens with a Windows 7 installation you will find that you can’t do things like create or edit rucksacks and recording cards unless you are running Recorder 6 as an administrator because Windows 7 blocks changes to C:\Program Files unless you have administrator rights. One way to get around this is to install Recorder 6 directly onto the C: drive, not into \Program Files.

Another point: I recently found that Management Studio Express running with Vista wouldn’t detach a Recorder 6 database until it was Run as administrator.
