Re: Mapping in Recorder with OS Street View

Hi

Has anyone used the free OS Open Data Street View maps in Recorder? They look quite useful but a bit of a pain to transform into a useable format. I have them in a compressed tiff format which throws up an error message (as per the help files). Does anyone know if there is a way to decompress them without using Paint to translate to bitmap? A back-of-envelope calculation makes me think I would have over a thousand to convert and would need 30GB of space on the server.

It took a while to work out that Mapserver isn't the same thing as Mapserver 5 turbo :( but I noticed that there is a version 6 available, although I couldn't tell whether this offers anything new, but if it does, might it get incorporated into a future Recorder upgrade?

Hi Gordon
I don't think MapServer Turbo 6 supports any useful additional formats as far as I know so I think you will need to translate to bitmap. You could look for a tool that does batch operations on image files such as ImageMagick - see http://lifehacker.com/342308/batch-convert-images-with-image-magick

Re: Mapping in Recorder with OS Street View

Managed to convert to bmp using ermapper, but when trying to open in Recorder I got the message:

"Error: 24 bit true colour bitmaps are not supported"

which might be useful for other people to know.

It's probably going to be a long tedious Paint job

You might find this useful for batch processing. It would be good if it works, I'd think about it myself then.
