Clicking "Find" whilst showing surveys by survey tags causes the observation scroll window to "spasm" (for want of a better word) and Recorder needs to be killed.

Not really no - although the find dialog is coming up now (the scrolled window still "spasms" before).

Using sort by tags:

1: Open Recorder
2: Open the observation hierachy
3: Click on the Find button

Yes, I get this too. It's as if there's a macro opening each tag folder in turn very rapidly (which kind of looks like a spasm). It hasn't frozen Recorder on me, though; I've always got the find box eventually after a few second's delay.
