Re: linking surnames (eg change of name)

Is there a way to link two "individuals" where it is actually someone who has changed surname and wants records to be acknowledge with the name they had at that time?
Obviously, one could merge two observers, but that's not quite the same thing is it - that should prsumably only be used when the same name has inadvertently been entered twice.

Currently if, for instance, an observer gets married or divorced, a new individual has to be created upon this change of surname.... surely that's not right, if there is no way of linking that "individual" to the previous surname of the same person.

Advice/ ideas?

Short answer, I think, is no (same problem with English Nature/Natural England, and the local Wildlife Trust)

So, is this something we could ask for as a new feature?  I'm sure many of us would want to use a way to link changed-name individuals and organisations.

Knew I'd seen it somewhere:

Not sure if the organisation side of things was picked up though?

I also thought I'd seen it before - but if this functionality was brought back, I do not know how it works!

I'm guessing it was logged, but nothing done - unless there's something in the long awaited 6.15?

I don't think this feature is in any planned development. But, you could create a second individual then use the Assocs tab to link them together, specifying the Role as something like "Former name". Not ideal, but better than nothing.

Re: linking surnames (eg change of name)

We just change the surname to include the old name.  So on our Recorder database my name appears as Eleanor Knott (nee Bremner).  Somewhat clunky, but at least all of my records are attached to my name, and someone looking for me under my maiden name can still find the correct entry.

In Recorder 3.4 there was an option for 'additional name' or something similar.  Can we have it back please?
