Re: Dictionery Updates

Just updating dictionery and am having difficulty with H - when extracting with Windows XP it does not extract to anything that the Dictionary upgrade kit recognises.  It either does not extract and puts the zip folder into the Scripts folder or if it does extact it is labelled NBN Data and the Dictionary upgrade kit does not recognises the file as an upgrade - any suggestions welcome - thanks

Re: Dictionery Updates

What did you have in your Scripts folder when you ran the dictionary upgrade? You should have had 0000000H.zip plus any other scripts you were running but no Rec6Dict files. If you downloaded a Rec6Dict file you must unzip it just once. Check Dict Seq in the SETTING table before rerunning anything. In v6.14, Help – About Recorder 6 will tell you the version of your copy of the system and the dictionary. In earlier versions, you will find the dictionary version in Dict Seq. A dictionary upgrade will only run if the previous one has been run and the upgrade kit uses Dict Seq to find out if the previous one has been run. The following notes may also help.

When doing dictionary upgrades please follow the instructions at http://www.jncc.gov.uk/page-4615 but note the following points. When preparing to run a dictionary upgrade please ensure that you download the required files to somewhere other than \Dictionary Upgrade Kit\Scripts, then unzip them to the Scripts folder prior to running the DictionaryUpgrade.exe file. When running the K, L, and M upgrades, for example, the Scripts folder should contain 0000000K.sql, 0000000L.ini, 0000000L.zip, 0000000M.ini, 0000000M.zip and, ReadMe.txt. It shouldn’t contain the files you download, i.e. Rec6Dict_0000000K_UnzipMe.zip, Rec6Dict_0000000L_UnzipMe.zip and Rec6Dict_0000000M_UnzipMe.zip. If it contains these Rec6Dict files the upgrade won’t run correctly. Note that the help on upgrading the dictionaries in Recorder 6 says not to unzip the download files but the procedure has changed since that was written because when the new Recorder web-site became available in October JNCC wouldn’t allow files like 0000000K.sql to be available for download unless they were zipped. Previously they had been available exactly as required in the Scripts folder.

Please note that if you run the K, L and M dictionary upgrades together the changes in M don’t get done, e.g. the addition of the Integrated Habitat System to the biotope dictionary. JNCC rectified this by issuing M again as N. If you run K and L on their own and then run M on its own it works but if you have already run the 3 together it would be best to just run N to correct the problem. Either way you will still need to run N so that you won’t be told you have missed an upgrade when O comes out and you try to run it.

Re: Dictionery Updates

Hi Sally - was doing ok with the downloads and unzipped everything needed.  Put in only unzipped files to the Scripts file.  Managed to do F, G without any problems and have run the dictionary upgrade kit and  installed ok.  When trying to unzip the file, Windows places a copy of the zipped file into the scripts folder and does not extract it.  Have attempted this several times.  The information states that you should only download and upzip one copy of each download file - does it cause problems that I have tried this several times to no avail.  H.  Is this because the file is too big - have an email from you earlier about much bigger files that you had to purchase winzip for.

Just to confirm. You should have a file 0000000H.zip in the scripts directory. The file contains  the NBNDATA.MDB (you dont unzip 0000000H.zip). Are you also runn version 3 of the dictionary upgrader (ie. the most recent one). The error you have raised suggests that the system does not have enough rights to extract the file and write it to the disc.

Re: Dictionery Updates

I am running upgrade kit 3 and the zipped file is in the Scripts folder.  I have tried running with both zipped and unzipped file.  As already stated - was able to run Dictionary Updates F and G without any problems.

Running Recorder 6.13.2.176 as System Administrator

Re: Dictionery Updates

Hi Sue
OK - first thing to do would be to upgrade to at least 6.14. There were a series of changes in that version to deal with Vista. I cant quite remember the details of what was changed but upgrading would be a useful first step.

Re: Dictionery Updates

I was under the impression that updates F, G and H had to be done in 6.13 before upgrading to 6.14 certainly this is the instruction on the updates web page.  I am running on Windows XP.

Re: Dictionery Updates

I thought the idea was that you should not upgrade past update I without doing the application upgrade to 6.14 first, but that you can upgrade to 6.14 before all these dictionary updates if you prefer. Where does it say you have to do F,G and H before upgrading to 6.14?
