Re: Problems upgrading dictionary

I am running Recorder 6.14.4 dictionary 0000000E on an XP machine with administrator rights.  When I try to upgrade the dictionary with 0000000F.zip in the scripts folder by running DictionaryUpgrade.exe (from kit 3) using the SQL server account, I receive the message ‘merging data file’ followed almost immediately by ‘unable to create directory’.

Any help much appreciated.

Re: Problems upgrading dictionary

Hi Derek,

This script is a sql one (rather than an mdb file like for example 0000000H) and I have had to zip these to allow them onto the server for the new website. It is possible that it isn't working simply because it should be unzipped - can you try unzipping it in the scripts folder (and removing the zipped file) and trying to run it again. If that works then I will provide more guidance on the website. Another thought that may relate (not sure) - did you rebuild the indexes after upgrading to E and in the meantime add any user added taxa?

Thanks,
Lynn

Re: Problems upgrading dictionary

Hi Lynn

Many thanks for your help.

Once I unzipped F as you suggested, the upgrade was successful.  I have now upgraded to H but am still having problems upgrading to I.  The upgrade completes with the message ‘Recorder upgrade complete. No database updates were required’.  However, the Help window within Recorder says that I am still on H.

Re: Problems upgrading dictionary

Hi,

I'm also having the same problem, currently on the latest version of R6. Initially I was getting the unable to create directory message which I resolve by unzipping the file. That was when updating from 00000003 to 00000004. I'm now on 00000007 trying to upgrade to 00000008. If i keep the file as RecDict_00000008.zip I get the unable to create directory error, if I unzip the file and place the SQL file in the scripts directory I get the message Recorder upgrade complete. No database updates were required. Under the help menu it shows version 00000007.

I have rebuilt the dictionaries and I'm using V3 of the Dictionary Upgrade Kit.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Gareth

Re: Problems upgrading dictionary

Hi,

When we recently upgraded our test system our IT engineer had similar problems.  He seemed to think that the dictionary upgrade instructions were confusing/conflicting as he was unsure whether the scripts should be in the same folder as the dictionaryupgrade.exe or if they should be in a sub-folder called 'scripts'.  Which ever way he was trying, when he tried it the other way it worked.

Sorry I don't know the details, but whichever way you are trying you could try the other way ...

Re: Problems upgrading dictionary

Hi,

My scripts are in the folder called scripts. If I try it the other way around it it comes up with the same error Recorder upgrade complete. No database updates were required. So for whatever reason even with the file 00000008.sql in the scripts folder it doesn't seem to be able to see it.

I've tried right clicking the file, going to properties and selecting unblock but this made no difference.

Gareth.

Re: Problems upgrading dictionary

Yes, the sql file 00000008.sql should be unzipped and placed in the scripts file. I will ask our technical help to look into the issue for you - sorry to not have responded sooner.

Best Wishes,
Lynn

Re: Problems upgrading dictionary

Hi Gareth

Under the help menu it shows version 00000007.

Can you please double check this for me. Does it actually say Dictionary Version: 00000007 or does it say Dictionary Version: RecDict_00000007? I've managed to reproduce a similar problem to yours where the sequence number ends up with RecDict_ in it which should not be present.

Re: Problems upgrading dictionary

Hi John,

It actually says RecDict_00000007.

I'm guessing this is wrong and its entered this incorrectly during an update as the files available to download have RecDict_ in the filename?

Can I just change this in the setting table back to 00000007 and the proceed with 00000008?

Thanks,

Gareth.

Re: Problems upgrading dictionary

Hi John

I also have RECDICT_0000000H in the Recorder Help

Re: Problems upgrading dictionary

I went through and manually changed the Dict Seq value in the Setting table getting rid of the RecDict_

I then ran then 00000008 updated which ran fine. I then proceeded to run 00000009 but got an error trying to do this.

"Error occurred running script 00000009.sql. There error is described as: DELETE statement conflicted with COLUMN REFERENCE constraint 'FK_Index)Taxon_Designation_Taxon_List_Item'. The conflict occurred in database 'NBNData', table 'Index_Taxon_Designation', column 'Taxon_List_Item_Key'"

Rather than troubleshoot this I decided to revert to back and start the upgrade from scratch from 6.6.8.59, this time with the correctly named dictionary updates everything went through fine and I'm now on the latest version of R6 and dictionary updates.

Re: Problems upgrading dictionary

I have followed Gareth and manually removed recdict from the dict seq field in the setting table after which upgrades I and J both worked fine.
