Re: Undetermined records

Is there any way to update the determinations for a batch of records?  We have just upgraded to Recorder 6.13, and have found that when we enter data the species determination (Det.Type on the general tab) comes up as Undetermined i.e. waiting for checking by an expert.

We would like to change these to Correct or Considered Correct (is there a difference) but don't want to have to change each record one by one.  We're entering data from CWS surveys at the moment, so are inputting species lists of 100+ records.  It would be very tedious to have to change each one - especially as Recorder 6 seems slower than Recorder 2002.  It takes a long time to open each record.

Any suggestions - or has this been fixed in 6.14?

Cheers,
Ellie

Re: Undetermined records

Ellie,

You should be able to do this using the batch update tools. Try this:

Tools > Run Batch Updates > JNCC > Determination Updated > Det6 - Creates new Determination using original taxa

I think that should do what you want. If not, give Mike Weideli a shout - he usually has this sort of batch update knocking about already and so it's well worth asking him.

Regarding Correct vs. Considered Correct. Correct is when you know something is definitely correct (you have a specimen that has been looked at by a couple of experts, or you have a photograph that conclusively tells you the id is correct), whereas Considered Correct is when you assume it must be correct because the id has been made by an expert or it's an easy id, but other than that, you don't necessarily have any proof.

Re: Undetermined records

Hi Charles

We use a slightly different definition of Correct. If an ID has been made by an expert we say the record is Correct (not Considered Correct - after all it is an expert making the identification!).

Re: Undetermined records

Thanks Charles,

I have had a look at the batch updates, but I don't think Det6 is quite the one that I need.  It says that it is for selected surveys 'where the system custodian is not the custodian of the current determination. Use on imported Surveys...'

I need to update records that we have entered ourselves, not records that we have imported from someone else.  I will contact Mike Weideli & see if he has something useful.

Thanks for the clarifications on Correct & Considered Correct, they're very useful.

Cheers,
Ellie

Re: Undetermined records

Hi Ellie

Purgle and I have just tackled exactly this problem. If you haven't come up with a solution by next week when I see you I could probably explain how to do it (if we can find time).

http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?pid=4035#p4035 and the posts before and after it provide more information. The problem with filters seems to be fixed in v6.14. They didn’t return more records than were actually imported in the testing I did.
