Hi

We are currently installing Recorder 6. The initial transfer of R2002 database highlighted significant errors. I have a fair bit of guidance on how to deal with these. However, some edits may need to be made to the tables in R2002. We run Access 2003, but the R2002 database is Access 97 and read only. Can I simply convert the 97 database to 2003 and deal with edits with everything still running okay after? I vagualy recall when we first installed R2002 that this might be a problem?

Any help greatfully received.

Hi Lynn

Not sure if we have MSDE or SQL Express, how do I tell? Whichever we have must have been originally installed by our IT department when the PC was delivered. Thanks.

Hi Simon,

Although the R2002 database is readonly, you should still be able to edit the actual data when using Access 2003.  Which means you can fix any data errors etc.  You just wont be able to create new tables etc.  Do not convert the file to a later version of Access as this can still cause problems.

A few years ago I wrote up how to use later versions of Access to query a Recorder 2002 database (Access 97). For those who are interested I have uploaded it to https://www.yousendit.com/download/YkxKTXRSZEtxRTAwTVE9PQ. Please note that this link is only available for 7 days or 100 downloads. DO NOT allow Access to convert a Recorder 2002 database (nbndata.mdb) to a later version of Access. Converting it back appears to work but, if I remember correctly, it does something to it which then blocks exports.

Under contract to JNCC I produced a Recorder 6 version earlier this year and an updated version of Sarah Shaw’s document on Recorder 2002 to Recorder 6 data transfers (http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?id=449). Lynn, could you please upload these to tide users over until they are available in the new Recorder web-site.

The guidance on transferring data from R2002 to R6 is unfortunately too large to upload but this and other tutorials will be available on the new Recorder website when it is launched. In the meantime, If you need this document please let me know and I will email it to you (it is 6.5 MB).
