Re: Vacancy - NBN Gateway Application Developer

The NBN Gateway (http://data.nbn.org.uk) is a website designed to improve the exchange and use of biodiversity data across the UK. It currently holds over 40 million species observations the largest collation of its kind in the world. The website provides a range of functionality to users including interactive species distribution maps and geographic summaries (e.g. species that have been recorded from a protected area).

JNCC is now looking for an Application Developer to join the team at Lancaster. The post holder will be involved in helping to shape the future direction of the Gateway and developing the system to meet this requirement. They will also provide technical assistance to the service team and users of the Gateway’s web services. You will need a good understanding of relational databases and developed data backed websites, preferably using an object orientated programming language. Knowledge of ecology and/or biological recording would be an advantage. You should also be organised and capable of planning and phasing work and be able to work and communicate effectively with others.

Salary

£27,500 pa* + Civil Service Pension + generous leave

*The salary includes a recruitment and retention allowance of £2,500 pa which will be reviewed annually and is not guaranteed for the life of the post
