Re: Recorder 6.10.4 Network install updating woes

Hi Guys,

I have installed Version 6.10.4 of Recorder 6 on an MS 2003 server with the database residing on an Mssql Server 2005 server. All went fine and I can download the workstation from the server to a remote client and access the server through recorder 6 with no problems.

The problem is that the updates wont run. I have downloaded both program and dictionary updates but when run they just come up with the Microsoft generic "an error has occurred" dialog. To rule out conflicts with anything on my PC I have tried the update from a freshly installed PC and its still the same. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this error before.

Re: Recorder 6.10.4 Network install updating woes

Hi Barry
Can I just check, are you running on Citrix? Also, when you try to run the upgrade, do you log in with full installation rights (i.e. local machine administrator rights) over the client? You should also always run the upgrade from a login which is already setup and configured to run Recorder 6.

The other place to have a look for information is the system logs (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer, then look for the Application Log).

Re: Recorder 6.10.4 Network install updating woes

Hi John,
Thanks for the quick reply. The client is Windows XP. I had actually checked the app logs when the error first occurred but I said I'd better not include it in the first post in case it was too technical for the forum. Anyway here goes. I have full admin rights on the servers and clients so that should be OK. I'm sort of wondering could it be a windows update that's causing this due to the fact that its the kernel that's faulting. Thanks again, I appreciate the help.

Re: Recorder 6.10.4 Network install updating woes

Just a quick follow up, I did a bit more digging on this and found some evidence to suggest that installing sp1 for the .net framework version 3.5 may alleviate the problem. So I'm doing this as i type this. I'll let ye know how it goes, fingers crossed though. It could turn out to be a microsoft issue after all.

Re: Recorder 6.10.4 Network install updating woes

Final update for this topic
The problem has been resolved. For some reason a permission that I had originally set on the server folder, had disappeared. Don't really know why but anyway all's well that ends well I guess. Updates are running now. Thanks for the input John.
