Re: Import wizard error

Hi Leslie,

Looks like you have a symbol (a single quotation mark probably - like this ' or this ` ) which is near a letter J which is causing you problems. You could search for this symbol using Edit/find in excel and remove it and your spreadsheet should import fine. Unfortunately Recorder at the moment cannot cope with some symbols - hopefully with more funds we will be able to sort this out. Until this time you will have to clean your data so that the import wizard can manage the data.

Sorry, I know its annoying but using the find in excel you should be able to get to the bottom of it relatively quickly.

Cheers,
Lynn

Also try " (double quote) - see http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?pid=3946#p3946. Have you any plans to upgrade to v6.13.3.182? - see http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?pid=3643#p3643

Re: Import wizard error

Thank you for your messages.

I assumed the problem was a ' or " near a J too, so I searched for all ' and " (there were none) and then checked that all Js and js had no odd symbols near them, but could find nothing.  I am quite sure there are no other punctuation marks within the file, but could you suggest anything else I should search for?

The name of the observer begins with a J, so I have deleted and retyped this.

The box that pops up after the error message is 'The import file is empty, there is no data to input', if this means anything.

Re: Import wizard error

Recorder only imports from the first sheet in a spreadsheet. I presume you have the data on the first sheet of the spreadsheet? After retyping the observer name I presume you got the same error message?

Re: Import wizard error

Please ignore the last message - after staring blankly at the offending spreadsheet waiting for divine inspiration I noticed a Chart1 worksheet tab before the Sheet1 tab which must have been mistakenly created during data entry and explains everything!

Re: Import wizard error

Good - its nice when the answer to a problem is straightforward. Thanks for explaining. Does the import now work after retyping your observer name?

Re: Import wizard error

Yes, everything has gone smoothly now - Recorder must have been trying to enter the data in the Chart sheet rather than the actual spreadsheet containing the records.  Thanks for your help.
