Re: Import wizard error

Hi

I have been trying to use the wizard to import an excel spreadsheet and keep getting the following error:

The import process failed to insert an output record in table rule 'Survey_Event' the import job was aborted

The error that occurred was:

String or binary data would be truncated

This is probably due to an error in definition of the import process

I have tried leaving out the fields that I thought might suffer from truncation but to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Import wizard error

The import wizard looks down the spreadsheet and creates a max length for each field based on the records in the first set of rows (not sure how many exactly but certainly not all of them unless you don't have many). So the way to get round potential truncation is to move some of the rows with the longest entries in the fields towards the top (or at the top to be safe). This will then set the field length to a larger number and should reduce/eliminate truncation. In particular those related to Survey_Event. I presume that you are on the latest version of Recorder - 6.13.3?

Hope this helps,
Lynn

A Google site search finds other references to this error, i.e. searching for
