Topic: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrade 0000004S

Upgrades 0000004S   is now available from http://www.recorder6.info/page47.html  Please read this page carefully and in particular note the requirements for running the update which is in the new format and which will not work with the old dictionary update software. The main advantage of the new approach is that it will be possible to run the dictionary upgrades  from within Recorder 6 (after version 6.29).  Note that you will require a licence key to access these updates see https://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?id=7472

The updates bring the R6 dictionary into line the NHM UK Species Inventory as at 5 Sept 2020.

If you have run the new upgrade before and know how it works then you can go directly to the files at  http://www.recorder6.info/page50.html

Each upgrade needs to be run separately so if you haven't yet upgraded to 0000004R  then run this first, then run 0000004S There is no need to rebuild the index table until you have run 0000004S.

Dictionary Upgrade 0000004R introduced a new list 'A Master List' maintained by the NHM.  The master list is in effect a current UK Taxon List.  It also replaces the List of Additional Names which will no longer  be maintained.

Re: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrade 0000004S

Hi Mike,

As I'm unable to apply 4S due to my licence key being invalid, I presume I need to purchase another licence for the current financial year even though we paid the full fee during December 2019.

Re: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrade 0000004S

Hi

Sorry missed this post.  Upgrades 4S, 4T,4U and 4V are available. each on needs to be run separately but the indexes do not need to be rebuilt after 4V.  Take care after 4S,4T and 4U  to click on No so as not to rebuild indexes. It won't do any harm if you do, but just takes time.

Hi Mike,

Many thanks - I can get 4S, 4T and 4U; the links to 4V download 4U, however.

Re: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrade 0000004S

Hi Mike, just upgraded to 4T and I'm getting Taxon List = 243 on v6.30 and not 245 (as indicated on the upgrade notes) as I had prior on upgrade to 4S. Is this ok or a problem?

Re: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrade 0000004S

Hi Mike, just to clarify, my Taxon List total of 243 on v6.30 and not 245 as indicated on the upgrade notes. The notes explicitly state 243 should be expected on v6.31 only. Hence my concerns or are the published notes wrong?

Re: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrade 0000004S

Could be my mistake. Did you run the report before the index rebuild or after.. if the other tables are corrdfgvthen you do both have a. problem.. I will need to check and uodate the website.

Mike, good question, I'll run through the process again on my test database and report back with details.

Re: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrade 0000004S

Hi Mike, after running 4T on v6.30 the Taxon list count decreases from 245 to 243 - this is where the mismatch occurs. I ran all upgrades from 4Q, ran the index rebuilds after each update. I'm using Dic2-Statistics(2020). xml which I believe is the correct report.

Hope this helps.

Re: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrade 0000004S

Mike - I wanting to update our dictionary to the latest version but on checking noted that on 0000004R (our current version) our database stats for Taxon Version differ from the suggested figure by two (319793 vs the suggested 319791). Is this critical and should I try to resolve this before upgrading to 0000004S and beyond?

Re: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrade 0000004S

Hi

I don't think this will be a problem. It will interesting to find out why and I will give some thought to what it might be and how to find it with a report, Did the difference appear after you ran 4R or could it have been therer before.

Re: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrade 0000004S

Good question, and the answer is I don't know. If you generate a report to check I'll happily run it and work out what it might be. Incidentally the Taxon value is exactly the same.

Re: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrade 0000004S

Hi

Thanks, I have looked in 4R and their are no deletes of TVK ao I suspect this goes back before this. I think perhaps we first need to look for TVK's with no TLIK.

Re: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrade 0000004S

Hi Mike,
I'm a bit behind with dictionary updates we were still on 4Q.  I have run 4R with no problem, but having just run 4S (plus the index rebuilds) I have a discrepancy with the Taxon figure, I have 317034 but should have 317036.  Please can you let me know if this is a problem and how I might fix this?
Many thanks,
Jackie
