Topic: Error when using Import Wizard following database upgrade

Hello,
I have been trying to import and excel spreadsheet of species records, however the database throws up an error when I try to move past the page where you validate your columns.  This is the first time I have used the import wizard following our upgrade to version 6.30.0.291.  Can you help? Many thanks, Christine

Here is the bug report I get:

Re: Error when using Import Wizard following database upgrade

Hi Christine

We are also on v6.30 but I don't think we've had this problem. If you were able to upload a sample of the spreadsheet (or send it to me directly), with the same columns (even it it's only got one record), I'm happy to try importing it to see if we get the same error.

Andy

Re: Error when using Import Wizard following database upgrade

Hi Christine
I've tried importing the spreadsheet but don't get an error after the column validation screen. But that may be because I'm matching some columns to the wrong import wizard fields. Can you list which columns get matched to which fields (and which get skipped)?

Re: Error when using Import Wizard following database upgrade

Hi Andy,

Sorry for the delayed response.

Here are the columns and what I match them to:

Property = Location
Location Name = Location Name
Grid Reference = Grid Reference
Date = Date
Scientific Name = Species Name
Common Name - skip
Quantity - Abundance Data
Recorder = Observer
Recorder Credentials - skip
Determiner = Determiner Name
Determiner Credentials - skip
Comments = Taxon Occurrance Comments
Confidential - skip
Taxon Determination Comment = Taxon Determination Comment
Publication Reference = Publication Reference

Thanks again for taking the time to help with this.

Christine

Re: Error when using Import Wizard following database upgrade

Did you ever resolve this? We've just had the same error message following an dictionary update.

Re: Error when using Import Wizard following database upgrade

No news from me as I haven't had a chance to test it again yet.

Which of the columns in Christine's list are you including in your import Dave?

Re: Error when using Import Wizard following database upgrade

Elaine tried again the next morning and it imported with no issues. I wonder if she had R6 running whilst I was running the dictionary upgrade and her local machine got upset from that? Whatever happened, its fine now so we can forget about until someone else has the same issue!

Re: Error when using Import Wizard following database upgrade

That's good news for you Dave.

Christine

I've tried the import again on our R6 using the field matching that you use and still don't get any error. Have you tried again on another day (just in case it was caused by a similar problem to Dave?)

If it's still happening then I don't know what else to suggest except:

1. Remove any rows with records that look different to the others (e.g. the Location that contains an apostrophe, although perhaps you get them all the time in Scotland) until you can pinpoint one or more problem rows.
2. Skip more and more columns (until you get to the bare minimum) to see if you can pinpoint a problem column.
3. Remove the columns you normally skip on import from the spreadsheet (although that's clutching at straws).
4. Hope Mike or someone else has an idea.

Re: Error when using Import Wizard following database upgrade

Hello all,

Thank you for your previous help with this.  I've been off on maternity leave hence the very delayed response.  I tried the ideas above, but the problem continues...

ICT looked at the latest upgrade notes for me and it looks like the dictionary updates were done previous to the system upgrade to version 6.30.0.291.  Could this have caused an issue?

We decided to restore a previous version (Version 6.28.0.287 Database Version 48) as no records were added in my absence.

Now when logging in I get a Warning saying the NBNExchange.NBN Exchange Format: Stack overflow addin could not be loaded.

When using the import wizard it all seems to be working until 'Creating temporary database' when the database crashes.  There is no error message, it just disappears.

Can you help?  Should we try and upgrade to 6.30 again?

Many thanks,
Christine
