Topic: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrades 0000004L to 0000004Q

Upgrades 0000004L to 0000004Q  are now available from http://www.recorder6.info/page47.html  Please read this page carefully and in particular note the requirements for running the updates which are in a new format and which will not work with the old dictionary update software. The main advantage of the new approach is that it will be possible to run them from within Recorder 6 (after version 6.29).  Note that you will require a licence key to access these updates see https://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?id=7472

The updates bring the R6 dictionary into line the NHM UK Species Inventory as at 09/10/2019.

The new method of updating the dictionaries is a great improvement, although I was expecting the first update 4L-4P to do all the updates in one go, but it is necessary to run it for each dictionary update

Being able  to  run multiple updates is something we can do if it is worth it.  A normal update will consist of just one file, so if you are up to date there will be no need to process multiple files. This time we have multiple files . Updates and 0000004L to 0000004O are there as part of the move to the new approach. Updates 0000004P and 0000004Q are separate updates which have come out together because 0000004P was delayed pending the licence fee announcement.

Re: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrades 0000004L to 0000004Q

Hi Mike, I'v just upgraded to v6.30 and dictionary 0000004Q on my development copy of Recorder 6 - My Taxon Version count is 317,755 as opposed to 317,754 as suggested it should be. The upgrade to dictionary 4P count was bang on. Not sure why the additonal 1 Taxon Version count but I thought I'd report it.

Apart from that, a smooth upgrade.

This suggests it failed to delete a Taxon Version,  As this is a new system I would like to find out why and your help would be appreciated to do this. I will get back to you when I have worked out how best to nvestigate.

Mike, I have 2 versions of the XML Report Dic2. The original and the new one you sent to me post 'dictionary out of step' fixes.

The original reports fine and the new one is misreporting. I ran the original report after 4Q and the results are fine. I guess I shouldn't use the new one you sent to me?

Hi

Would you mind sending me the two versions please. I think there was a Taxon_Version key added by JNCC in an addin which is only in some system and is causing this issue. One of the xml reports specifically ignores this key.

Re: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrades 0000004L to 0000004Q

Hi Mike,
I have upgraded to V6.30 and have now upgraded to Dictionary 4Q.  Without realising the XML report was included in the upgrade, I downloaded the Dic2 report from the Dictionary upgrades page.

I ran the report before upgrading, Taxon was I think 1 or 2 higher than the stated numbers, but the rest all spot on.  Having now done the upgrades, using the report included in the R6 upgrade I get:  TAXON_LIST: 244, TAXON: 317757, TAXON_VERSION: 317757, TAXON_LIST_ITEM: 608953, ORGANISM: 119136.

Using the report downloaded from the Upgrades page, I get the same, except Taxon: 311680, Taxon_version: 317754

Which version is correct?

Re: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrades 0000004L to 0000004Q

Hi

Thanks for pointing this out. Looks like the inbuilt report is wrong. The Taxon figure isn't calculating correctly. There are a few issues causing some users to get slight differences (3 or 4 r) . This depends on when they installed R6 originally, but in the inbuilt report  the Taxon figure is repeating the Taxon_Version and is not correct.

Re: Recorder 6 - Dictionary Upgrades 0000004L to 0000004Q

Thanks Mike, I have run it using the report you linked to in your post, this reports the exact numbers expected following upgrade to 4Q.  It would be worthwhile mentioning this on the Upgrades page to avoid others reporting similar issues.
