Topic: R6.30 upgrade error

Since upgrading to 6.30 yesterday one of our standalone installations has been getting this error message for each of the standard xml reports when starting the system. We can get past it by clicking OK to each message, but there are a lot of messages and then each time it insists that the indexes must be rebuilt. Getting into the system takes a long time!

Re: R6.30 upgrade error

Since then we have rebuilt the indexes and now recorder won't start at all. The error this time is that The Object Sheet File Path setting is missing or incorrect. Recorder is not installed properly and cannot start.

Update: the object sheet was in the /user files folder. Moving it up solved this problem, but not the other.

Re: R6.30 upgrade error

Hi

There isn't any obvious reason why the 6.30 upgrade should have caused this. The code which parses the reports hasn't been changed since 2004 and upgrades never change the registry. However, the  object sheet problem suggests that something has corrupted the registry and this may be behind all the problems. Can you check the registry to see where R6 thinks the reports are located. I attach the registry details for a typical  standalone install so you can see if there are major differences. I suggest that you take a copy of the reports folder, then delete the contents. This should at least stop the error messages while we investigate.

Was the upgrade from 6.28 or 6.29 ?

There should be 5 changed reports with 2019 dates in the Reports folder. See atached.

Re: R6.30 upgrade error

Hi

I have remembered seeing something like this before, but not with the XML report problem. Windows or a virus checker removed the R6 registry entries.  Do you recall any warning messages about the R6 upgrade  being an install risk ?

Re: R6.30 upgrade error

Thanks, Mike. We have got it working now.
The registry was fine, but the upgrade had overwritten all the existing standard reports and batch updates with empty files (hence the parsing errors) and it had also put the object sheet into the wrong folder. We restored the reports from a backup, and moved the object sheet up the hierarchy.
For a while it was also giving a message that the indexes needed rebuilding each time the system was started, even though that had already been done several times, but curiously that stopped once we solved the other problems.

Hi

Pleased you have got it working. I am at a loss to understand how the upgrade removed the files and will investigate further.
