Re: Import wizard problem - creation of new event for each observation

I wonder if anyone has come across this problem and can shed light on why this is happening and ways to prevent it -

I've been importing plant records in excel format. The records are from the same location, date, recorder so essentially each row only differs in the species name.  The import goes ahead but frustratingly for each observation a new event and sample is created. So instead of one event opening up to one sample containing 200 or so species observations I've got 200 or so events each with a single species in!

Essentially none of these records are wrong, but it looks a bit odd and we like to keep things neat and tidy and not requiring explanation.

Any insight appreciated,

Re: Import wizard problem - creation of new event for each observation

Hi Alex,

I'm not alone! I reported this one a while back and I understand this is fixed with the imminent release of the next version of Recorder 6.

Unfortunately, the upgrade and fix will not retrospectively re-order any data already imported.

Best wishes,
Les.

Yes, we've had to put (large) imports on hold while we wait for a fix for this issue. It's annoying and messy, but ultimately does no real harm to the data. Would be nice if there were a batch update (batch updates are a new feature of the imminent version) that could 'collapse' the contents of a survey.
