Topic: Recorder 6 - Networked installation problem - What, Why & How??

We are currently bringing the LERC back in house after many years and our IT section is attempting a networked installation onto our server.

I am being told (sorry, I'm only the messenger at this stage) that, when they put in the SQL Instance nothing happens (ie they cannot click ‘next’) thus the installation cannot be progressed.

Does anyone have any idea/advice regarding what might be happening and why and how to overcome it please?

Many thanks,

Paul

EDIT: Further information & relevant questions follow:

When we start the install we get to the datadase server selection screen (see attachment) to enter the name of the SQL Server with the Recorder6 Database on, we enter the SQL Server instance name (we have tried instance name and server name\instance name), click ‘Next’ and nothing happens, no errors, no messages.

So a couple of questions :

Does Recorder6 Server Installation have to be on the same server as the database is on
Does Recorder6 always use the Microsoft Access MDB file and connect to SQL Server via linked tables (via ODBC)

Re: Recorder 6 - Networked installation problem - What, Why & How??

Hi

Just to confirm they are installing 6.26. Things which should be checked are

1. SQL Server Browser service  is running.
2. Check in configuration manager that TCP/IP and Named Pipes are enabled.
3. That the person running the install has Admin permission on the machine and SQL Server
4. That it is possible via Control Panel to set up an ODBC link to the SQL Server Instance (you don't need this to run R6,  but it will check that the machine can connect to the SQL Server Instance).

R6 does not use the MS Access MDB file, but a direct connection to SQL Server. The MS Access link isn't essential for the operation of R6.
