Topic: FAILED TO GENERATE IMPORT TABLE 'SAMPLE'. THE IMPORT JOB WAS ABORTED.

ala http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?id=5623 I get the attached error when trying to import a spread sheet with the sample duration column allocated but not the sample start time.

What format are the times in ? This seems to be  a bug.  Some things seem to work and not others. For example 12:00 works but not 12 or 12.00. R6 should either  handle these differences or report them as a problem at validation stage.

Hi Mike - sorry, should have been clearer - I'm only importing sample duration; I'm not importing the sample start times at all.

Oh, but yes - validation of times (in the format hh:mm ?) at the validation would be good.

Sorry.  Didn't read it properly, but then managed to get the same error message.   Duration is just a text field, so can't see what could cause a problem. I can't duplicate it with a simple test, so must be something to do with the combination of fields.

I've come across this error again and actually read it properly.

In this new case (and perhaps the original) the import wizard didn't flag up sample durations with a length of more than 20 characters, which is the limit for this field.

Truncating the sample duration to 20 characters allowed the import to proceed.
