Topic: Transfer of Recorder 6 to a new Server

We have transferred Recorder 6 to a new Server. However, I have lost the ability to make changes via Access. How do I fix ?(Error message is: ODBC -connection to 'SQL Server... failed'.)

Re: Transfer of Recorder 6 to a new Server

There is a batch file together with some instructions at http://jncc.defra.gov.uk/page-5005

If this fails then the link can be set up manually.

Cheers, we will progress. Are there any other files that I may have lost a link to/with after the transfer that now need to be 'manually' reassigned?

Re: Transfer of Recorder 6 to a new Server

My colleague downloaded the tool and ran it. It appears that this tool is designed for a standalone installation. When he gave it the parameters for our system it failed to find the sql database and the error log said this.

Re: Transfer of Recorder 6 to a new Server

Was wondering if anyone had the opportunity to consider why the fix that was typically applicable did not work? Is there something about the set-up that we use that now needs to be factored. All help appreciated.

Re: Transfer of Recorder 6 to a new Server

It easiest way around this is to set up a manual link. The link R6 creates is nothing more than an ODBC link to SQL Server which only takes a few minutes to create manually . How this is done will vary a  bit with operating system, but basically set  up an OSBC link to the SQL  instance using control panel - you will be able to test this during set up. Then in MS Access link the tables using the ODBC link.
