Topic: Dandelion or cranefly

https://species.nbnatlas.org/species/NH … 4651#names

Slightly perturbed that a dandelion has a cranefly as a synonym (twice).

In fact, I got to this point by doing a search (from the homepage central box) on "Tipula" and https://species.nbnatlas.org/search/?q=Tipula suggests that a lot of synonyms are muddled.

Re: Dandelion or cranefly

Likewise, I'm a bit dismayed at how bad the synonymy is - I've found plenty of errors where junior synonyms are linked to completely unrelated taxa. Obviously, the UKSI is correct at my end but we need input from David Martin to understand what's happened during the Atlas import. I'm totally prepared to sit and work it through with him and give him whatever help he needs to get this working but at the moment it's baffling me as to how these names can have been linked.

Re: Dandelion or cranefly

Thank you Chris.
This problem has to be resolved before we can continue to test the Atlas functions and more important have sufficient confidence to be able to use it.
This is clearly a technical problem, but if you need the community to do more testing, please but a note on the Forum and we'll do our best to help.

Re: Dandelion or cranefly

Hi Chris

This and the incorrect assignment of TVKs to imported records are both issues which I think you are the best person to provide advice on, since they both appear to be issues with how the Atlas has used the UKSI. I am very glad to leave it with you and David to work on. Let us know how you get on and if you need any help.

Jim Bacon.

Re: Dandelion or cranefly

Just as an update, I've been in touch with David today and we're working through his scripts working out what is causing the issues. I'll keep you updated here but it's definitely looking like the taxonomy will need to be reloaded.

Great news (well, that you're on the case with Dave!), thanks Chris

Re: Dandelion or cranefly

I've been working with David over the last 2 days and have given him extensive support to help rewrite his taxonomy-import scripts. I think he's made significant progress now and has rolled out the new taxonomy, where all junior synonyms should now be linked in correctly.

The 3 examples below now seem to work:
Alophora barbifrons
Tipula marginata
Tephrochlaena oraria

Do let me know if you guys see any junior synonyms that have been mis-pointed :)

Re: Dandelion or cranefly

That's excellent work. Thanks to you both.
Do you have any news about fixing occurrences which have been given the wrong TVK, e.g. all those peacock butterflies?

I think that's high on the list but Dave was keen to roll out the revised taxonomy data first and then move on to occurrences. I will email him and see if we can sort that out too, between us.
