Topic: Synonyms

WRT: tvk, oh right. I was just referring to synonyms.
i.e.
https://species-ws.nbnatlas.org/species … 0000875588
Says that the tvk 'NHMSYS0000875588' is a synonym and the accepted one is 'NHMSYS0000875481'

Consequently:
https://species.nbnatlas.org/species/NHMSYS0000875588 = 0 records (as it's 'not accepted')
https://species.nbnatlas.org/species/NHMSYS0000875481 = 1047 records.

EasyMap now maps to accepted.

Atb, -D.

Picking up on this - I would expect this page:

https://species.nbnatlas.org/species/NHMSYS0000875588

to show records even though it is a synonym? It would be very easy to find yourself on that page and think that there were no records of Bombus soroeensis. Doubly so as it has a bar code, description, map etc.

Or, alternatively to show a more user friendly message saying "click here to go the accepted name".

Or, perhaps like wikipedia does, automatically redirect to the accepted name? (and show a message saying say)

[Not sure if this has been picked up elsewhere!]

Re: Synonyms

I agree Charlie ... if someone arrives at *any* page where the data is relating to the taxon-concept, not just the name string, it should be displaying the taxon-concept's map/report - this is a basic requirement. It's problems like this that make me think that there has been a misunderstanding of the difference between taxon-concepts and names somewhere along the line. This might have happened during the taxonomy import or during the dataset import but I can't see why the Atlas should be leaving people hanging on a page for a junior synonym ... it has all the data to work out the concept. I hope David will be in touch quickly when he is back in the office because I want to get this sorted out ASAP.
