Salary: £20,000 to £25,000 pa depending on experience

Location: Flexible and can either be based in our Nottingham head office or from home but with some travel across the UK.

Type: Temporary – initially a 3 month contract

Hours: Full time

The National Biodiversity Network Trust is a charitable organisation with a membership that shares biological data and information. The NBN membership includes most of the UK’s national biological recording schemes and societies, many of the UK’s largest wildlife charities and NGO’s as well as Local Record Centres, government agencies, research institutions, botanic gardens and the public.

To date, over 250 million records have been shared within the NBN, many of which have been made available via the NBN Gateway, an online database and mapping portal. The NBN Trust is now working on updating the tools it uses to make this information accessible in a digitised and exchangeable form, and developing a new set of online NBN Atlases.
We are seeking a computer programmer to enhance our team and assist with our transition from the NBN Gateway to the new NBN Atlas. The role involves supporting the NBN Secretariat and our infrastructure developer in transferring data and information from our current site, the NBN Gateway, and partners’ websites, to the new NBN Atlas platform. This will include writing code and developing APIs and webservices for our Network Partners.

The post holder will be expected to be experienced in;
Experience with 1 or more programming languages (e.g. Java, Groovy, Python)
Experience using REST web services
Relational database experience
The successful candidate must also be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people from novice users to technical experts
