Topic: Base Map Paths Keep Resetting but Do Work!

We've just upgraded to the latest version of Recorder. Previously on Have Fun Installing Recorder we had to change the base map path to point to folders on our server. For this installation we've done the same but the registry entry keeps rewriting itself back to C Drive. Recorder always used to fail with such a setting due to C Drive permissions but now it works. What is happening and why and should we be worried that even though it seems to be OK we'll hit a stumbling block in the future.

The base maps path should be to the server as these are accessed by all users. Nothing I know of has changed which would cause the effect you describe, so I will need to investigate further.

I guess it could be something to do with our own profiles which is making this change rather than anything to do with Recorder.

R6 will work with the base maps on the Local machine and in fact it is designed this way. I wasn't aware of this until investigating the code as this is not what is in the documentation. The original base maps are held in the Base Map folder within the application folder (where Recorder6.exe is held) and if necessary are  copied to local machine or server when R6 opens. If the user does not have permssion on the local drive to make this copy then R6 will fail. I have a feeling that it is this process which is causing the mapping to completely fail in some circumstances.  I am contiuing to investigate this, but if mapping is working Ok I don't think you should have a problem with the current set up.
