Topic: Species Dictionary update error?
One of my users has just noticed that some of her fungi records have changed, presumably due to a dictionary update. Unfortunately this means that some of the determinations are now wrong. The problem relates to records of fungi, where they have only been identified to genus level, and entered as such. The update appears to have change what was a genus level record to an aggregate species, but the species in question is not one of those covered by the aggregate.
So if Mycena a recorder enters a record of a Mycena, it automatically appears as Mycena alcalina agg. - which is not always going to be the case, and certainly isn't the case with this record:
http://www.sewbrecord.org.uk/details/re … _id=822484
The same is true with:
http://www.sewbrecord.org.uk/details/re … _id=819783 (for Ganoderma)
and
http://www.sewbrecord.org.uk/details/re … id=2689500 (for Coprinellus)
although she tells me that in these cases "but those at least are probably the sensu lato species that SEWBReCORD has picked for me"
Of course it can be debated whether the Mycena record represents a useful record, a point to which she concedes herself, but it does raise a concern whether there are other taxa that are mis-represented in the dictionary?
I am afraid I do not know at what point this 'error' was introduced. They are not replicated in Recorder 6 (0000003E) as far as I can see.
