I've just done my first download using ALS. I specified the desired filename as "Niptus hololeucus". I received something called "Niptus" without any extension. It was gobbledegook to a plain text editor and even adding .xls and .xlsx extensions didn't help with reading it.

So I tried again, this time asking for a file called "Niptus". This time I got a file called "Niptus.zip" which then made some sense.

So it looks like a requested filename can't contain a space, and if it does it stops the .zip suffix from being added to the file name that ALS invents for itself.
