Topic: Redetermination of selected records

We have about 400 records needing redetermination to a different taxon, but that is only a small subset of the records we hold for the original taxon. I seem to remember a batch update that would do that, using a spreadsheet of taxon occurrence keys to select the records to be changed, but can't find it. Is there such a thing? It would be useful.

Re: Redetermination of selected records

The Validation system contains a Batch Update which sort of does this. It is designed to change the  determination following a review  by an expert. However, as long as the field required are in the csv file,  it doesn't matter where they come from. If it doesn't exactly do what you require let me know as I think it can easily be adapted.

How about using one of these?
JNCCDet1Determinations.xml
JNCCDet2Determinations.xml
JNCCDet3Determinations.xml

I have these in my System Supplied folder within Batch Updates

Re: Redetermination of selected records

The validation system should do just what we need for this, but I can't get it to accept the new taxon name in the csv file. I've tried putting it in as Caloplaca ferruginea s. str. (which is how it is shown in the taxon dictionary), and also the long form Caloplaca ferruginea sensu stricto, but the check csv file report rejects both.

Any suggestions?

Re: Redetermination of selected records

This shows up a bit of problem in the validation system.  It is trying to match on name and in  the R6 dictionary this species has  sensu stricto  in the attribute field and not  as part of the name. I will look at how we might take into account the attribute while matching.

Re: Redetermination of selected records

Just wondering whether there is a solution to this problem with the validation system? We still have more than 400 records needing redetermination so I'm not looking forward to doing them manually!

I have it on my list to do. Hopefully, in the next day or two.

Re: Redetermination of selected records

Attached is a revised checking report  LCValidation1Check.xml (for the R6 report folder) and a revised batch update  (LCValidation1.xml) for the Batch Update folder . They should  cope with  attributes following the species name. The name needs to be the species name followed by a space and then the attribute as in R6.

Recorder 6.24 will be needed to run these, because we need to allow for species names over 100 characters long which is a limitation in versions pre 6.24.

Please make sure you back up your system before running the update and check the results carefully before proceeding with any further input. I have tested it on just one species.
