Topic: Access Denied

One of the network users encountered a crash in Recorder 6 and since then they cannot log on to Recorder.  Every time they try they get a EOleException: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

I also can't find the crash log for it on the user workstation.  Is it held locally or is it stored on the server?

Re: Access Denied

It looks to me as though the problem is more likely to be with the connection  to SQL Server.  This could possibly be some corruption in the registry, or an SQL server issue of some sort.

Re: Access Denied

Problem is still persisting.  I can't work out what's up with it.  Seems to be affecting 2 computers now.  TCP/IP protocols are active, SQL Server is listening on port 59871, local connection works fine and other network terminals connect just fine.  It's just two of our computers cannot connect.  Running through Microsofts troubleshooting steps results in me looping through it to stages that prove fine.

Re: Access Denied

Can you set up an ODBC link to the the SQL Server database NBNdata  through Administrative tools ?

Is Recorder still showing the correct information in the registry for the SQL Server Instance  ?  (HKey_Local_Machine/Software/Dorset Software/Recorder 6)

Re: Access Denied

Registry entries are normal but I cannot set up an ODBC link to the database via admin tools from the affected machine.

Re: Access Denied

Just to add to that.  If I map the folder the data file lives in as a network drive, the mdf can't be seen, only the dsn file from the affected machine.  Not sure why.

Re: Access Denied

If you haven't already done so I would first check on  workstation that is working that you can set up an ODBC link outside Recorder. If you can then this will confirm that the problem lies somewhere in the configuration of your network which is blocking access to the workstations that are not working. I just don't know enough about networks to begin to suggest where you go from here -  perhaps someone else can help ?
