Topic: Import Source

I have some data to import from one particular organisation. I don't completely trust all of it's provenance, because any member of the public could have contributed to it, and may have incorrectly identified species.

Individual observer names are present on some records. I want to flag the source of all this data to be imported, and am minded to populate the survey event ownership field with a code representing the source organisation.

Is there a convention for using a particular field for this purpose ?

Re: Import Source

Not sure if I have understood  correctly, but it it were me I would probably both import the dataset to a new separate Survey with an appropriate title* (and possibly even set Survey Run By to the relevant organisation) and also possibly set the source of each record to an appropriate "document" (a document can be something like "Org 2015 records").
*At CBDC we had a convention in the Survey titles depending on the data source to help us sort outputted data,  e.g. "PSN Forename Surname" for data from individuals, "CWT survey name" for data from the local wildlife trust etc.

Off the top of my head, I am not sure how easy it would be to filter based on survey event ownership (i.e. if you can use it it as an output field or a constraint in the report wizard) so that is something to consider when weighing up your options?

Re: Import Source

Seems reasonable to use this field, but it can't be filtered on in the Report Wizard. You could also set the Survey Media  to 'Temporary' which would automatically prevent  the data being exported, and can be used in a filter if required.
