Topic: Import wizard using wrong locations

An old problem seems to have resurfaced.

Importing from spreadsheets, all our records have locations and usually there are many locations to be created during an import. That works fine, and all but one of the records are imported against the correct locations. However, I have noticed several times today that one of the locations created from each import ends up as Site Not Visited. Its record has been put against a different location, but with the correct date, grid ref and other details.

The sample shows the correct site name in the Location Name field, but the location it is linked to is another from the same import. It looks as if the sample that goes astray each time may be for the last location to be created, as the ones I've noticed were all right at the end of the alphabet. I suspect that this may be happening for every import, but that would take a lot of checking for which I don't have time. It is only apparent when the location affected has only a single record against it.

I am using Recorder 6.23.2.279.

I seem to remember this happening years ago in a much earlier version of Recorder 6 but thought it had been fixed long ago. Now I dread to think how many misplaced records there may be in our database, and have no idea of how to find them but that's a problem for the long winter evenings. A fix to this would be much appreciated.

Re: Import wizard using wrong locations

Hi Janet

Not sure how difficult this is going to be to track down. It might just be something which happens in very specific circumstances. I will run a few simple tests to see if I can spot any issue.

Re: Import wizard using wrong locations

Hi Mike,

I've done some more digging, and as you say it is only happening occasionally but there are dozens of examples in our database. I'll try to trace them back to their original spreadsheets to see if there are any clues.

Thanks Janet. Unless I can duplicate the problem fixing it will be difficult.
