Topic: Recorder 6 and upgrading to Windows 10

I currently run R6 and SQL Server 2008 on a laptop running Windows 8.1. I would like to upgrade to Windows 10. Before I do this does anyone know of any problems that may arise concerning either SQL Server 2008 or R6?

What I do know is at http://www.recorder6.info/page17.html  Sql Server 2008 seems to be causing problems, but not SQL Server 2008 R2. At the moment there is not sufficient information to be sure about this, but I suspect that SQl Server may be available after the upgrade, but just not running, which is causing the problem. When Windows 10 is installed I think it will get the latest updates and this in itself may solve the problem. I have done 2  install of R6 on Windows 10 and both seem OK. I  have done one upgrade from Windows 8.1   with SQL Server 2008 R2 and this worked.

Thanks Mike - I've got SQL Server 2008 R2 (64bit) - so from what you say it will probably be OK to upgrade to W10?

Certainly works for me, and I have confirmation that with SQL server 2008 once the service has been restarted it start automatically the next time the machine is started up.

Re: Recorder 6 and upgrading to Windows 10

We could really use some reports about people's experience in upgrading to Windows 10.
I'm currently compiling the Dipterists Forum Bulletin and have put in a cautionary note aimed at our 8 or so R6 users.
If I publish a link to this thread it would be so helpful if this posting were followed by reports of success (or otherwise). Could you mention Mapmate too if you happened to do both at the same time.

Many thanks,
