Re: MSDE Message

A couple of times we've had the MSDE configuraion applaiction strat unprompted. At one one point it stops and says: "Setup has detected your current SA Password is set to blank. Please use sp_password to set a strong SA password and restrat setup or set BLANKSAPWD = 1 to ignore this vulnerability. Refer to readme for more details. Setup will now exit." Then the configuration engine restarts and you go round in a cycle until you press cancel. Sometimes it restarts but finally gives up.

This has only happened since we upgraded to Recorder 6.10.4 (standalone version). It doesn't seem to cause any other problem but it would be good to know what is happening and what MSDE is trying to do.

Re: MSDE Message

Hi Graham

I've spoken to Dorset Software about this and I believe that this is not directly caused by Recorder, but rather a Windows update trying
to update MSDE and complaining about the blank sa password (which is the default with an MSDE instance installed by Recorder).

Do you have any tools (Enterprise Manager or equivalent) you can use to connect to the database?

If you connect to the database using the sa login you can then change the password for this login (so is no longer blank), which should I hope resolve your problem.

I would ensure you've backed up the Recorder database before proceeding just to be on the safe side.

Best wishes,

Re: MSDE Message

If you don't have Enterprise Manager, you can download SQL Server Management Studio Express which is essentially the same thing and is free.
