Topic: Problem with mapping in Rec6 after upgrading from XP to Windows 7

Hi all,

We have been running a Recorder 6 network on Windows XP and now have to upgrade our computers to Windows 7, in line with our hosting organisations IT policies. The upgrade has taken place on a number of machines but we are experiencing problems with the mapping elements.

It was always my understanding that if you added a polygon to a layer on one machine then it would show up on the other. Is that correct or am I going mad? If I am right then one of the problems we are having is that polygons aren't showing up on the main polygon layer on other machines. Also, I've just added a polygon layer on one machine and it is not showing up at all on any others.

I have double-checked and additions/amendments to species records do show up on other machines so it looks like this is just a mapping issue.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Emma

No you're not going mad but you may do if you persist in trying.

Some of the following may not be relevant to your situation.

When I moved our LRC's R6 from standalone to a network I had awful problems with mapping and polygons. If I set up mapping and polygons on one workstation and then went to another to do the same I found that polygons failed to appear on the second machine. If I then installed map tiles on the second machine and then went back to the first I found that the mapping had disappeared from the first.  I understood the problem to lie with two tables. One is called Computer Map and the other is called Map - something else. Moving from one workstation to another overwrites data in these two tables. I never resolved the situation satisfactorily even with the help of our IT. Now I have R6 and all the mapping on one dedicated workstation  - the other workstations are fine as long as mapping and polygons are not installed or required. Not an ideal situation, but I'm sure there must be a work-around somewhere. I'd like to know how you get on. Did your network system of several workstations work with mapping/polygons before you upgraded to W7? If it did I'd like to know details of your set-up.
