Topic: Dictionary

Upgrading my Recorder 6 on to a newer computer running Windows 7 from v6.17 to 6.22 went well as did downloading my data (109,871 Species observations, 1923 Locations, 284 Habitat observations).

Dictionary upgrades went well until 1F,1G,1H.  Part way through it crashed, the progress bar was completed on a Taxa change (cannot remember exactly).  I waited and left system running for an hour or so more, at some stage a 'not responding' sign appeared.

Upon opening Recorder 6 it states the latest upgrade is 1H: but all my Species data has gone!  They are mostly but not exclusively Vascular Plants:  Locations, Habitats and Individuals/Organisations appear intact.

Fortunately I backed up my database 24 hours earlier, I did a few dictionary updates afterwards but no additional records.

Any advice on reloading from backup would be welcome.  Has anyone else had difficulty with 1F.1g,1H?

Re: Dictionary

Have you rebuilt the indexes yet? The species data is probably there but cannot display with out indexes.

Re: Dictionary

Dear Rob

Thanks, good suggestion, it looks like re-building Index worked.

(much appreciated)

Re: Dictionary

Not so fast, next Directory upgrade would not work. Error occurred running script 0000002I.sql.

Can Mike/anyone resolve from attachment?

Re: Dictionary

Advice was to re-run Dicts. 2F2G2H - Sally helped me to re-set in SQL.

Down-loaded Dictionaries again - successfully!  Re-built the index.  Tried updates Dict. 000002I etc. IT FAILED again.

Error message reads:

Error occurred running script 0000002I.sql. The error is described as: The UPDATE statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY SAME TABLE constraint "IX_ORGANISM_KEY". The conflict occurred in database "NBNData", table "dbo.ORGANISM", column 'ORGANISM_KEY'.

Re: Dictionary

Even guided by Sally through SQL and the mysterious world of manually downloading Dict 2I the gremlins won the day.

The error message 'The UPDATE statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY SAME TABLE constraint "IX_ORGANISM_KEY". The conflict occurred in database "NBNData", table "dbo.ORGANISM", column 'ORGANISM_KEY'.' still prevailed.  I will leave the details of the Tables for Sally to post if appropriate to do so; and I'll stick to Equisetum hybrids!

Re: Dictionary

2I is a really small update and the command causing the problem must be the one which says:

Update Organism set Parent_Key = 'NBNORG0000087888' Where Organism_Key =  'NBNORG0000088109'

For some reason the entry with Organism_Key = 'NBNORG0000087888' must be missing from your database.

Don't know how to fix this though.

Re: Dictionary

Thanks Rob,

Yes, Sally navigated me to Parent Key and took notes of the numbers which I understand are wrong.  Sally is to discuss with Mike, so watch this space!.
